Notre équipe de traceurs s’étoffe, je l’ai déjà écrit, cette année un gros travail aura été fourni par Laurent pour que nous trouvions ensemble les plus jolis passages possibles pour tracer les circuits du Grand Tour 2026. Merci à lui.
Merci aussi à Pierre et Enzo qui sont allés vérifier le 75 km. Merci à notre secrétaire, Jacques, qui chaque année fait aussi un gros travail de vérification des tracés.
Il était d’ailleurs sur le terrain mercredi matin pour les tous derniers réglages sur le tracé du départ des 50 km, entre L’Isle-Jourdain, Lias, Pujaudran et Bouconne. J’y suis allé l’après-midi et en profité pour vérifier des alternatives pour réduire encore la portion de goudron sur les circuits. J’ai par exemple suivi deux magnifiques sentiers en sous-bois mais que nous ne proposerons pas (je sais être raisonnable, si, si !), soit parce qu’ils vont rendre la balade plus difficile soit parce que leur accès ou leur sortie se fait par des chemins aux herbes trop hautes et pas fréquentés. Fréquentés par contre par des chevreuils, j’en ai dérangé un et j’ai entendu quelques aboiements caractéristiques
Je me suis notamment régalé à trouver des passages qui longent la voie rapide vers Auch.
À la carte … Je suis parti en vélo après le travail pour rejoindre L’Isle-Jourdain, au plus court mais en privilégiant un itinéraire Gravel. Direction donc d’abord les coteaux de Bellevue avec un superbe passage en sous-bois entre Saint-Geniès-Bellevue et Saint-Loup-Cammas. Si vous ne l’avez lu ou entendu, un cobra est recherché et a semé la panique sur le Nord toulousain, il est cherché du côté de Castelginest, j’avoue m’être posé la question sur le chemin des Mottes quand j’ai entendu un bruit caractéristiquement reptilien … Je connais très bien l’agglomération et autour, pas de tracé pour l’aller et le retour, à la carte …
Pour le retour, un vrai régal après Léguevin, j’ai découvert un superbe itinéraire très nature qui rejoint le GR 653 à hauteur de Brax puis Pibrac.
Célébrité … Je ne recherche pas la célébrité, je n’en ai pas la prétention mais cela fait quelques fois qu’un cycliste m’arrête (merci lolo !)pour me demander si je suis bien car il me suit sur les réseaux ou connaît l’association et m’a reconnu. De là à signer des autographes ou à me lancer dans une carrière d’influenceur, le pas est grand et je n’ai pas envie de le franchir, en plus il faut partir à Dubay et manger le chocolat éponyme (j’adore pourtant la pistache, mais là non, non mais allo quoi ! ?) … Je suis juste touché par cette gentillesse témoignée et l’intérêt suscité pour ce partage de passion … Ô Gravel est bien suivie sur les réseaux, c’est, il me semble peut-être le seul club (je préfère parler d’association) purement Gravel dans la région, et même plus largement …
Crédibilité … J’en parle souvent, je suis un rare cycliste à m’arrêter au feu rouge (sans tourne à droite ou tout droit autorisé), en traversant l’agglo j’en ai vu quelques-uns se moquer du code de la route. Ça ne rend pas service à la gente cycliste et au respect que nous doivent les autres usagers de la route …
Civilité … Les habitants de Blagnac sont habitués à voir beaucoup de cyclistes circuler, il y a de nombreuses voies cyclables, voies vertes ou pistes cyclables plutôt bien conçues, plusieurs automobilistes se sont arrêtés pour me laisser passer, d’autres auraient appuyer sur l’accélérateur pour me faire comprendre que je n’avais rien à faire, fétu à deux roues, sur la chaussée …
Jaune fluo … Je sature du jaune fluo pour mes tenues de véloboulot (ça fait 10 ans), je passe à l’orange !
Soleil … Je milite au CNDBCN, le Comité National de Défense du Bronzage Cycliste Naturel, la saison est lancée. Température estivale, soleil, premières traces de bronzage, j’assume et j’entretiens. Naturellement ! Sur le vélo, dehors, en pédalant !
Il ne me reste plus qu’à compiler les différents retours des reconnaissances et validations pour tracer les boucles définitives du Grand Tour. Je suis pour ma part et pour l’association très content des tracés que nous allons proposer le 3 mai … j’espère que les participants auront autant de plaisir à y rouler que nous en avons eu à les tracer, c’est du boulot …

He was actually out in the field on Wednesday morning making the very final adjustments to the route for the start of the 50 km course, between L’Isle-Jourdain, Lias, Pujaudran and Bouconne. I went there in the afternoon and took the opportunity to check out some alternatives to further reduce the amount of tarmac on the routes. For example, I followed two magnificent paths through the woods, but we won’t be including them, either because they would make the ride more difficult or because their entry or exit points are via paths with overgrown grass that aren’t used by people. I particularly enjoyed finding sections that run alongside the dual carriageway towards Auch.
On a whim… I set off on my bike after work to head to L’Isle-Jourdain, taking the shortest route but opting for a gravel trail. So first I headed for the Bellevue hills, with a superb stretch through the woods between Saint-Geniès-Bellevue and Saint-Loup-Cammas. In case you haven’t read or heard, a cobra is on the loose and has caused panic in the north of Toulouse; it’s being sought in the Castelginest area. I must admit I wondered about it on the Chemin des Mottes when I heard a distinctly reptilian sound… I know the urban area and its surroundings very well; no set route for the outward or return journey, just off the beaten track…
For the return journey, a real treat after Léguevin: I discovered a superb, very natural route that joins the GR 653 near Brax and then Pibrac.
Fame … I’m not looking for fame, I don’t have any such pretensions, but every now and then a cyclist stops me to ask if I’m OK because they follow me on social media or know about the charity and have recognised me. It’s a long way from there to signing autographs or launching a career as an influencer, and I don’t want to take that step. Besides, you’d have to go to Dubai and eat that chocolate named after the city (I love pistachio, mind you, but this? No, come on, really!?) … I’m just touched by this kindness and the interest shown in sharing this passion… Ô Gravel has a strong following on social media; it’s, I think, perhaps the only club (I prefer to call it an association) dedicated purely to gravel riding in the region, and even further afield…
Credibility… I often talk about this; I’m one of the few cyclists who stops at red lights (unless turning right or going straight is permitted). Whilst cycling through the town, I’ve seen a few others flouting the highway code. That does a disservice to cyclists as a whole and to the respect other road users owe us…
Courtesy… The residents of Blagnac are used to seeing lots of cyclists about; there are numerous cycle lanes, greenways and cycle paths that are rather well designed. Several motorists stopped to let me pass, whilst others would have put their foot down to make it clear that I had no business being there – a two-wheeled nuisance – on the road…
Neon yellow … I’ve had enough of neon yellow for my cycle-to-work outfits (it’s been 10 years), so I’m switching to orange!
Sun… I’m an activist with the CNDBCN, the National Committee for the Defence of Natural Cyclist Tans – the season’s well and truly underway. Summer temperatures, sunshine, the first signs of a tan – I’m embracing it and keeping it up. Naturally! On my bike, outdoors, pedalling away!
All that remains is for me to compile the various feedback from the reconnaissance runs and approvals to finalise the routes for the Grand Tour. Both personally and on behalf of the association, I’m very pleased with the routes we’ll be proposing on 3 May… I hope the participants will enjoy riding them as much as we enjoyed mapping them out – it’s hard work…
